It seems these days that magick is more popular than ever, but many are unaware of the dangers of magick. Particularly among the youth, people are becoming pagan and wiccan in droves, but is it really as safe as you think? Firstly I would like to point out that the opinions expressed in this article are not meant to offend anyone, I have had many friends who are wiccan. The views are meant to inform and enlighten and offer an alternate perspective that may not have been considered. However, having said that, these views are my beliefs and have been acquired over many years of experience.
How Does Magick Really Work?
There are two ways magick can work, the first is that you are the source of it and the second is that an entity is the source of it. When you are the source, you prepare and conduct a spell, what you may not realise is that this is merely a catalyst. The spell is just a ritual to create an elaborate ruse that will trick your mind into believing something is going to happen. The short-cut is simply to believe the “something” is going to happen, which, granted isn’t that easy but can be done. However, when an entity is involved then that is completely different. Some times the entity may not exist at all, in which case it falls back to you as the source, and the ritual is again just a catalyst for belief. But often the entity does exist and will do what you ask, for a price. In either scenario there is a cost and a consequence – regardless of whether the spell is “white” or “black” magick.
The cost and consequences when dealing with an entity or using black magick might seem more obvious, but the truth is there is always a cost. You see, when we strip away the ritual and the spell and reduce this to it’s absolute parts you have two things: Belief and will power. And when you force your will on anything or anyone but yourself, there is a consequence. A love spell for example, is you forcing your will on someone else to fall in love with someone else. A prosperity spell is you forcing your will on the universe to get something from it. The key here is intention, you enforce a belief and your will to EXPECT an outcome. That is the flaw, when you force an outcome rather than receiving it organically then it costs you. For example, I used to force traffic lights to go green all the time, but shortly afterwards my life started going terribly wrong. It seems harmless enough to tinker with traffic lights, after all who does it affect? Well for one the other motorists, and for two, again, the universe!
When you deal with an entity, you can never quite know what the expectation is. A simple spell you cast when you were 16 may mean you are the main course for the rest of your life. Because many of these entities have no corporeal form, they need to feed off the living in order to stay in our realm. There are probably other reasons this happens too, and I would be hesitant to believe someone who thinks they have all the answers. There are probably other costs too, which may not be apparent until it’s too late. There might be “nature” spirits, I am not saying there isn’t. I am saying that there is no need to make a deal with any entities for something you can do within yourself (or a better way, as I will explain below). Also, worshipping any entities or “gods” is foolish – we should respect them and even be thankful to them. But nothing should ever be worshipped. If you believe in God, do you really think he/she created us all to worship them? I have a very different view on God than most, I am not religious, but I do have a deep and personal relationship with them. Actually, when I asked what article I should write next, this is the first thing that came to my mind.
Being The Fool
Don’t be disheartened though, you can have your cake and eat it too, trust me. The answer to having a joyful, prosperous and love filled life full of adventure and meaning is this: Be The Fool. Go through life with a positive attitude, blissful demeanour and don’t expect anything. Well, actually, that’s a lie. You should expect something and that is to be in the right place, at the right time. That is a “spell” you permanently place on yourself through positive thought and mantras. Being in the right place at the right time, and not expecting anything means you will BE joyful and happy. You will almost always have good luck and when you don’t, since you didn’t expect it, you won’t be let down. Actually, if you don’t have good luck then there is probably a lesson to learn. You see, being in the right place at the right time doesn’t always mean good things – it means the experience you need next, on what ever level you need it. You might for example need a lesson in humility, so you are made to look like a literal fool after you talk to someone arrogantly. Or perhaps you need a lesson in generosity, you take someone’s place in a line and they get asked to another register and leave before you do. What ever it is, pay attention, if you pay attention to what happens in your life you avoid the risk of having to learn the lesson twice!
I hope I have made clear the dangers in magick and provided you with food for thought. Keep in mind though, just because your magick hasn’t currently shown any consequences, doesn’t mean there are none and it doesn’t mean it won’t affect someone you love or care about (it often does). Try living the “fool”, you will have a magical and fulfilled life and will wonder how you ever lived any other way. Being in the right place at the right time means being perfectly in tune with what I would call “the grid of synchronicity”. You will start to see synchronicity everywhere you go, and consequentially, your life will be amazing.

Less spells, more love. Take care.
